ECU remapping for forestry equipment

When it comes to forwarders, harvesters, tractors or skidders, ostensibly small gains in torque and horsepower can have a significant impact on productivity – and the overall efficiency of your day-to-day operations.

The remapping process allows us to unlock these gains, and fine-tune engine performance: smoothing power delivery, improving tractability on unforgiving terrain or boosting fuel efficiency by 5-30%. Over the 1,500+ hours your machinery is running every year, this can be transformative.

Heavy-duty remapping specialists with over ten years of hands-on experience, our software engineers write custom remaps for most makes and models of forestry equipment – including the aforementioned forwarders, harvesters and skidders, feller bunchers and loaders, tractors, chippers and any other diesel-powered equipment used to support your business.

Our approach to remapping is exacting and methodical. We take the time needed to understand your requirements, model the impact of any changes on your equipment and write custom code that respects the limitations of your engine and drivetrain.

The end result is a remap that makes sustainable alterations to your equipment’s power output and performance, installed by one of our global network of highly trained agents.

How Does Forestry Remapping Work?

All modern diesel engines are managed by a small computer called an electronic control unit or ECU. This ECU is responsible for, among other things, controlling parameters like injection timing, fuel pressure and turbo boost; changing the way your engine responds to various inputs by looking at a ‘map’ of values stored in a database.

By making a series of carefully calibrated alterations to the values in this database, we can change the way your ECU responds to inputs.

This process requires a lot of finesse, but an experienced software engineer, equipped with the research and knowledge required to make sympathetic changes to a map can safely unlock previously untapped reserves of torque and horsepower, widen power bands, boost fuel efficiency and improve the throttle response of modern forestry equipment.

We remap all Modern Forestry Equipment

With a global network of agents, we work with forestry contractors and businesses around the world who demand the best from their machinery. Since 2014, we’ve been writing remaps on a wide variety of forestry equipment, and our research and development department is pioneering the world of industrial ECU remapping.

The installation of our industry-leading remaps is carried out by our network of authorised agents who are supported from our UK headquarters, based in the South West of England.

Skidder & Forwarder Remapping

Skidders and forwarders are incredibly hard-working pieces of machinery that typically work in excess of 1,800 hours per year. Any savings that can be achieved using ECU remapping could have a significant impact on the overall profitability of your operation.

We have achieved fuel efficiencies of up to 30% on forestry forwarders and skidders – even on machines that are working on rough terrain and being pushed to their limits on a daily basis. One of our clients noted “quite an astonishing fuel saving” since remapping their forestry fleet.

Of course remapping isn’t just about fuel savings; it’s often the case that forestry equipment rolls out of the factory with a generic map that can be tuned to increase torque at lower rev ranges, unlock untapped reserves of horsepower and improve tractability on unforgiving terrain.

Harvester & Feller Buncher Remapping

When it comes to forestry harvesters and feller bunchers, any increase in power directly translates to an increase in productivity. By making a series of calculated adjustments to the ECU governing your harvester’s engine, we can deliver a significant gain in torque and horsepower.

We can also tweak engine characteristics to improve the way your harvester handles on incredibly challenging terrain, unlock more power at the bottom of your rev range and boost fuel economy.

In the round, this means your equipment will work harder and complete jobs in less time. When remapping forestry harvesters, all our maps are designed to respect the limitations of your engine and prioritise the long-term reliability of your equipment.
