Custom Remaps For Skidders and Forwarders

An increasingly competitive global market, rising running costs and a growing body of environmental regulations mean that logging and forestry companies are under more pressure than ever before.

Remapping equipment like skidders and loaders won’t fix everything, but it will substantially improve the productivity and profitability of your day-to-day operations: enabling operators to power through jobs more quickly, and alleviating some of the pressure on your bottom line.

At the forefront of the forestry remapping industry since 2014, we develop effective solutions for all modern skidders and loaders. This includes track and wheel loaders, trailer-mounted loaders, cable skidders, grapple skidders and large clam-bunk skidders.

Our remaps fine-tune engine performance to deliver substantive increases in torque and horsepower. We can also write custom maps to widen power bands, enhance tractability on rough terrain, or optimise for better fuel efficiency.

All Avon Tuning remaps are developed at our tuning HQ in the South West of England, and distributed by a global network of highly-trained and authorised agents.

Skidder And Forwarder Remapping Explained

Remapping modifies the way your engine’s ‘brain’ or ECU responds to various inputs, including (but not limited to) changes in accelerator pedal position, manifold pressure or air temperature.

By making a series of carefully calibrated tweaks to the underlying software, we can modify parameters like fuel delivery pressure or turbo boost pressure to increase power, unlock more torque at the bottom of an engine’s rev range, or otherwise enhance power delivery and performance.

Where skidders or forwarder remapping is concerned, we generally focus on one of two areas: fuel economy or raw power. This is because most forestry clients are either working to improve productivity (by enabling their equipment to carry more or move faster), or trying to reduce their running costs.

However, skidder and forwarder remaps can be customised to meet the unique demands of an individual client's business. As an example, companies with operations in remote parts of Scotland or Eastern Europe often request remaps that improve handling on steep slopes and adverse terrain.

When our in-house software engineers develop a new map, they are exacting and methodical; modelling the immediate impact of every change, and any downstream effects that could affect the long-term performance of a given piece of equipment.

We focus on unlocking sustainable improvements that have a tangible impact on performance and productivity, drawing on over 10 years of R&D to deliver gains that speed up tasks, reduce the fuel consumption of thirsty forwarders, or enable a loader to lift and carry heavier loads.

Remapping Solutions For All Skidders And Loaders

You might be wondering how we find the headroom to unlock additional power – and improve the performance of a modern skidder or loader. Our software engineers definitely deserve the lion’s share of the credit: Their ingenuity, and the methodical process they employ allows us to fine-tune any diesel engine for maximum performance.

But the fact is that a lot of modern skidders and loaders are actually de-tuned in the factory, which is to say that their ECU is loaded up with sub-standard software that hampers performance.

There are multiple reasons for this: Manufacturers like Tigercat,Caterpillar, Komatsu and John Deere sell equipment to multiple markets, including markets where access to good quality fuel and regular maintenance is very challenging.

They may also be using modular manufacturing processes, and need to create artificial differentiation between different models using the same engine, or just want to manipulate headline figures for marketing purposes.

Whatever the case, there are always plenty of opportunities to fine-tune engine performance to improve productivity, and the efficiency of day-to-day operations.
