ECU Remapping & Tuning For Bulldozer and Construction Loaders

It doesn’t matter whether you’re clearing, spreading or leveling: the speed and production rate of bulldozers and wheel loaders is directly proportional to their power.

A professional remapping solution fine-tunes engine performance to unlock additional power, as well as improving power delivery and, in some cases, fuel efficiency too. In the round, this enables operators to power through jobs more efficiently – and improves the productivity of your day-to-day operations.

Backed by an industry-leading R&D department, our engineers develop custom ECU remapping solutions for most modern bulldozers, including the majority of Caterpillar, Komatsu, Sandvik, John Deere and Bell dozers.

We also develop solutions for a range of tracked and wheel loaders, and have established a comprehensive library of field-proven remaps for most models of JCB, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo and Hyundai.

These maps are developed at our dedicated tuning HQ in the South West of England, and distributed by a global network of authorised agents – highly-trained to ensure a consistently excellent level of service.

Bulldozer and Loader Remapping Explained

Manufacturers are under pressure to minimise fuel consumption and reduce diesel emissions, which is why most modern plant equipment rolls out of the factory with a reasonably well-optimised engine.

But what about situations where ‘reasonably well-optimised’ simply isn’t enough? For construction companies and contractors trying to maximise efficiency, a 10-15% increase in torque or horsepower could be transformative. As could a further 10-30% increase in fuel efficiency, or an increase in the low-end torque needed to start moving a heavy load.

Finding the headroom for these improvements is relatively straightforward: While manufacturers work hard to ensure that engines perform well, they’re trying to optimise for performance across multiple regions, including regions where access to quality fuel and maintenance is a real challenge.

Bulldozer and loader manufacturers are also concerned with simplifying statistics to make marketing their products easier, and frequently balance the need to optimise engine performance with the need to create clear differentiation between the products in a given range.

These practices mean that there’s an opportunity to optimise performance and efficiency in virtually all modern bulldozers and construction loaders.

The exact nature of these improvements will depend on our clients’ needs: Every re-map is built or modified to meet the individual requirements of a given business and we frequently develop fully custom maps for highly-specific use cases.

But for most bulldozer or loader maps, our engineers focus on finding sustainable improvements to power and torque, reducing running costs or improving tractability on challenging terrain.

Remapping is an Exacting Process

Modern diesel engines are managed by an electronic control unit or ECU. This computer makes split-second decisions about engine performance by consulting a database (or map) of pre-programmed values.

When developing or refining a map for a bulldozer or wheel  loaders, we make a series of carefully calibrated adjustments to the values within the ECU's database of values. Our in-house software engineers leverage their expertise to modify parameters like fuel injection pressure, timing, and duration to optimise engine behaviour across various operating scenarios.

We can also disable functionalities like the DPF system for equipment that’s being used in countries with low-quality diesel fuel, or the AdBlue system in equipment that is destined for export outside the EU.

Our meticulous remapping process is backed by a market-leading R&D function. Our engineers have the tools, techniques and knowledge needed to model the impact of every adjustment, ensuring sustainable gains in torque and power for enhanced productivity, or a significant reduction to real-world running costs for improved efficiency.

Once we have fine-tuned a map, it is sent to our highly-trained agents, who install it using a structured process that involves a detailed diagnostic ‘health-check’, the duplication and storage of your manufacturer’s default map, the upload of your new software and a round of post-installation checks.
